The cutter Guldborgsund has its origins in Esbjerg, where she was launched in 1956 as newbuilding no. 1 under the name RAMSEY E381 and later sold as MARGIT E481. Back then she was a proud trawler, going out to sea for decades as part of the hard fishing life and bringing catches back to shore. She still has the original wheelhouse, rigging and rudder.
In 1978 she changed course and was converted into a fishing boat – a new chapter, where she instead brought people closer to the joys and experiences of the sea. Today she sails under the name Guldborgsund and continues its journey as an adventure ship, where memories and stories are created on the open water.
Guldborgsund is 19.7 meters long and built to accommodate community. With room for 36 people, she is big enough to bring people together, but still small enough to feel the closeness to the sea and the special atmosphere that can only be found aboard a ship with soul and history.
When you stand on the deck and look out over the water, you feel both the rustle of the past and the joy of being part of her present and future. Guldborgsund is more than a ship – she is a living story about the sea, the traditions and the many people she has carried through time.
A ship like Guldborgsund carries many years of history – and for her to continue to sail safely and securely, it requires ongoing maintenance. On board, work is constantly being done to preserve her original expression, while adapting the technology to today's standards.
The maintenance includes both the practical and the aesthetic: the engine and technology are serviced, the woodwork is cared for, and the hull is cared for with paint and repairs, so that she retains her strength and beautiful exterior.
The work is part of the respect that comes with owning a ship with history – and it ensures that Guldborgsund can continue to create new experiences for many people in the future.
To ensure that Guldborgsund To ensure that the ship is always in top condition and meets the highest safety standards, it undergoes thorough maintenance and inspection every year. In April, the ship is sent to the shipyard at Ring Andersen in Svendborg for annual maintenance. During this stay at the shipyard, the ship is inspected by the Danish Maritime Authority, which ensures that all technical and safety conditions are in order.
The rafts on board – a total of 3 – are tested and checked, and the life jackets (47 adults, 10 children's, 4 infant) undergo a thorough inspection to ensure that they are in proper condition. Fire equipment is also up-to-date, including Inergen fire equipment in the engine room and 3 hand extinguishers (2 ABC powder and 1 CO2 extinguisher). There is also a first aid kit C on board, 12 emergency flares, 4 smoke flares and 47 thermal suits, all of which are reviewed and inspected every year.
The ship also has an annual radio inspection, and everything is planned so that it is ready for unforeseen situations. An equipment inspection will be held in June, which is also supervised by the Danish Maritime Authority. This inspection includes, among other things, checking the ship's fire pumps, as well as a thorough review of routines such as ISM (International Safety Management), APV (Workplace Assessment) and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance). This inspection ensures that Guldborgsund not only is ready to sail, but is also among the safest and best equipped ships to take guests out on the water.
This meticulous maintenance and the ongoing inspections show that skipper Allan and his crew have a strong focus on safety and quality - so that everyone can enjoy a safe and unforgettable sailing trip.
