The Captain's Story

When you sail with Sundfarten, it's the captain Allan Henning Hansen, who is at the helm. And with Allan behind the tiller, you can be sure that you are sailing in safe hands.

Allan is a trained master from Marstal Navigation School and has over the years been a master on several different ferries in Denmark. He was born and raised in Rødby Harbour in a fishing family, where the sea and sailing have always been a natural part of everyday life. Allan already gained experience with life at sea as a young man – experiences that have followed him throughout his career.

His maritime journey began in earnest with six months on training ship Denmark, followed by 17 years of DSB Rederi and later Scandlines, where he sailed between the Baltic countries in the Baltic Sea. In 2009, Allan further trained as a ship's captain, and this is where a special passion arose: compasses.

In addition to his work as a captain, Allan runs the company Nautical MultiService, where as a certified compass adjuster he adjusts compasses on large commercial vessels. This requires precision, experience and a keen eye for safety at sea – qualities that also characterize his way of running Sundfarten.

With Allan at the helm, you are in the company of a captain who has dedicated his entire life to seafaring and safe navigation.

Allan carries an experience that most people would rather not have – he has experienced losing a ship in a shipwreck. A dramatic experience that hits deep, but which has also shaped him as a person and a sailor.

It is precisely this experience that today makes him extra aware of the power of the sea, the importance of safety and the value of being well prepared. The sinking was a turning point that gave Allan an even greater respect for the sea and a strength that he takes with him in everything he does on board. Guldborgsund.

On December 7, 1999, Allan and his father experienced a dramatic shipwreck in the Langeland Belt with the fishing boat North Beach KR100They survived – an incident that has left a clear mark on Allan's view of safety: respect for the weather, thorough preparations and clear procedures on board.
